Account Summary

The first thing you'll notice after you purchase bulk DNS services is a change in your account summary. You'll now have a custom panel for managing your bulk services.

It tells you how many credits you've purchased, how many you've used, and links for managing the service.

You will also see that there is now a DNS menu available to you on the main menu (or a significantly updated one if you already had basic service).

This is the main menu for your Bulk DNS Service. You can add domains immediately after logging into our website, rather than navigating down several sets of links. Everything you need is right at your fingertips.

In addition, the DNS summary page (available to all customers with DNS service), gives you a DNS-centric view of your domains, with additional options for Bulk DNS customers. You can simply cilck on DNS on the main menu to go to the DNS Summary.

Adding New Primary DNS Zones

To add a new domain, click on the DNS > add primary dns menu item. This will bring you to your add primary DNS page. Here you can add as many domains as you'd like, up to your limit. You can also specify a group/template that should be applied to the domain as it's created.

Adding Secondary Zones

You can create either primary or secondary DNS zones with Bulk DNS Services. However, creating a secondary zone does not require a template, as its configuration is trivial. Click on DNS > add secondary dns menu item from the main menu. Enter the names of the domains, and the name and IP address of your Master DNS server (usually your primary DNS server). Click "submit" and you're done.

Deleting DNS Zones

To delete a domain, use the DNS > delete dns menu item.

Bulk DNS: Delete DNS Zone

You actually have two different ways to delete a domain. You can copy and paste it into the textbox, or you can select it from the list.

Click submit and the domains will be deleted, and your credits will go back up. You will not not be asked for confirmation after you press Submit. If you are deleting multiple domains, it is possible to cancel in the middle.

Group Management

Groups let you organize your DNS into groups, and each group can have it's own template. Click on DNS > manage groups to go to group management.

You can define as many groups as you need to effectively manage your services. For example, groups are used in Nettica FailSafe service to manage the failover and recovery of the DNS for your domains. You may have a different group for each customer, each server, or any other way you see fit. While it's not necessary to use our grouping feature to use bulk DNS, a majority of our customers find it useful in quickly identifying which domains require special attention and which follow a standard format.

Managing Templates

To manage the DNS settings for your tempaltes, click on the DNS > manage templates menu item.

Manage Bulk DNS Templates

Use "{domain}" as a placeholder for the actual domain name to be filled in later. You cannot specify fully qualified domain names.

If you are changing the template after the fact, you can remove entries you do not want touched. The template will only add and modify existing entries. If you've added additional entries to some of your domains, those entries will be untouched when applying templated changes. This can pose a problem for some record types, particularly MX records. In order to remove extraneous MX records from domain(s), you must add the record you want deleted into the template, and prefix it with a minus sign ("-"). This will force its removal when the template is applied.

Applying Templates

Now that the template is all setup, it's time to apply it to the domains. Click the "Apply Template" button.

Bulk DNS: Apply Template

Select the domains you wish to apply this template to. To select (or de-select) all domains, click the top checkbox. Then click "Apply Now". You'll receive progress as the template is applied. You can cancel the process as necessary.

Bulk DNS: Template Applied

You can selectively choose which domains to apply the template, or select them all. After applying the template, you can verify the changes have been applied to the domain(s). As you add new domains, they can also use this same template, so the first thing you probably want to do is setup your default configuration.
